BANKS
There are plenty of ATM / cash points accepting Visa, MasterCard or any international debit card showing the Cirrus emblem in the area. The local banks operate from Monday to Friday: 08h30 – 15h00, except on bank holidays.
CHEMISTS
The “Farmacia’s” operate from Monday to Friday 09h00 to 13h00 & 15h00 to 19h00, plus Saturday morning from 09h00 to 13h00. There is always a chemist on duty 24 hours a day. A rota is displayed on each chemist’s door.
DENTISTS
The local, English speaking, dental facility is available in the village of Almadena, midway between Budens & Lagos. This is the surgery of Dr.ª Marilse Hodson, available for all types of treatment. For out of hours and emergency treatment please refer to the private hospital in Lagos.

DOCTORS
The closest private clinics are Luzdoc in Praia da Luz and the private hospital in Lagos. Both clinics have a multilingual experienced team and offer 24-hour emergency treatment. If you have taken out private holiday insurance, please take a copy of the policy with you.

DRIVING LAWS
DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE
Portuguese laws with regard to drink driving are very strict and the penalties are severe. A policy of “No Tolerance” is often implemented, especially during the summer months. To avoid problems, a taxi is recommended. Dario taxi services always available on +351 917 210 311.
The wearing of seat belts is compulsory for all passengers.
Police regularly carry our spot checks. The driver must carry a driving licence, the car papers and a passport. If caught doing something wrong, the driver may be fined on the spot.

The Hospital Privado S. Gonçalo de Lagos is a private clinic situated in Lagos, open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for emergencies or any medical attention. Tel 282 760181.
A district hospital is located behind Stª Maria church close to the slave market in Lagos.

POST OFFICES
There are post offices in Praia da Luz, Vila do Bispo and Lagos. Opening times are 09h30 to 13h00 & 15h00 to 17h00. Stamps can often be purchased at local shops and post boxes in blue or red marked “correio” are found in most village squares.
SUPERMARKETS
Intermarche, is large supermarket located in the nearby village of Budens. With a bakery, fresh meat and fish daily, plus all the normal things you would expect in a good size shop. It is expensive but handy if you are staying in our Salema,Figueira or Budens properties. It is reckomended to go to Lagos for a big shop. There is also a Lidl in the nearby town of Vila do Bispo.
Baptista supermarket opposite the Commercial Centre in Praia da Luz, carries a good range of products, including many British items.
Pingo Doce, a larger supermarket in Lagos, is located on the perimeter road of Lagos, heading towards Portimão. Close to the Marina.
Inter Marché also a larger supermarket is located on the main road into Lagos on the right hand side near the private Hospital. Proceed straight over at the first roundabout and head towards into the centre.
Modelo - on the outskirts of Lagos, good easy access.
